Hong Kong Snapshots

Thursday Travels is a weekly column featuring sights and sounds from my wanderlust adventures. Come, fly with me, and we’ll explore strange cultures, exotic eats and everything in-between.

These are some pictures taken in Hong Kong months ago. I love visiting the local markets to observe the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As for those Paul Lafayet macarons, I definitely need to have one of each flavour right now!

On a side note, I’ll be away for nearly two weeks, so please follow me on Instagram to see how I do the kangaroo hop down Great Ocean Road. Look ma, no hands!

Sheung Wan: Graffiti Art

In Singapore, we hardly see any graffiti around, except the commissioned ones at Haji Lane. Perhaps that’s why I’m so easily drawn to those overseas. Here are some I’d spotted in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong.

Sheung Wan is a neighbourhood in transition — from old Chinese temples to glittery new cafes, antique collectibles to designer goods. Just follow the white rabbit and you’d find yourself in a wonderland for the inquisitive traveller. Note that many shops and cafes here accept cash only.

Hong Kong: Po’s Atelier

The last of my vacation pennies were spent on this croissant from Po’s Atelier. There was no seating area, so I munched as I walked, leaving a trail of delicious buttery flakes along the alleys of Sheung Wan. Photos of this delightful neighbourhood will be posted next week. Stay tuned!

北京: 街邊小吃

This is the last post for our Beijing series. Yay!

Street food: this is where we try to be slightly more adventurous, but even so, eating a fried starfish is still a major no-no. We had our fair share of hits and misses, and it reminded us repeatedly how different our eating habits are, despite being Chinese all the same.
