Penang: 23 Love Lane

Thursday Travels is a new weekly column featuring sights and sounds from my wanderlust adventures. Come, fly with me, and we’ll explore strange cultures, exotic eats and everything in-between.

We stayed at two lovely boutique hotels in Penang, and one of them was 23 Love Lane. Online reviews were beyond positive and that made us doubly excited about the stay.

Our first choice – the Anglo-Indian Bungalow – was fully booked, so we settled for one of the Straits Eclectic rooms (above). It was clean and spacious, with a harmonious mix of modern/traditional furnishings.

The bathroom (below) was beautifully tiled, and stocked with Jojoba Oil toiletries from Crabtree & Evelyn.

Every room key is attached to a bell, which serves as a sign to the security guard that you’re a guest there — just in case they changed shift and the new dude hasn’t seen you before. The doors close at 9pm everyday for security reasons, but there is a guard on duty 24hrs.

Second storey of the Anglo-Indian Bungalow is a living room with a library of books. Quite a comfy area to escape the scorching mid-day sun.

All in all, our stay was absolutely delightful. Plus, it’s located right at the heart of Georgetown, just in-between the core and the buffer zone, so we had no problems at all popping in for a quick afternoon shower (yes, it was that hot!).
